EMDR:  Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

"EMDR is an accepted psychotherapy by leading mental health organizations throughout the world for the treatment of a variety of symptoms and conditions.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.

EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches.

To date, EMDR has helped an estimated two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress."

"EMDR is effective for many in relieving trauma, phobias, and associated anxiety.

It is intended to alleviate human suffering and assist individuals and society to fulfill their potential for development while minimizing risks of harming its application.

For the client, the aim of EMDR is to achieve the most profound and comprehensive treatment effects in the shortest time possible."

In short, I have witnessed remarkable transformations for clients in a 60 minute session. Some clients report "feeling lighter". Others forget that the problem with a phobia was a problem. My clients have reported relief from simple to complex issues, including from simple phobias, such as the fear of flying, to involvement in horrific accidents. - Dr. Lyles

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN EMDR SESSION?

We will identify an experience that causes difficulty and then determine how that experience impacts your view of yourself (i.e., "I am not safe"). We will examine how that affects you emotionally and physically. Then, you will bring up the memory for a minute or two while holding gentle pulsars and listening through earphones to a soft sound.

I will check in with you after each series of this process to find out what you are experiencing.  After successful completion of this series, we will then bring up the experience again with a positive view of yourself (i.e., "It is over. I am safe now."). When confidence in that belief is established, we close the session gently.  You can stop an EMDR session before completion. As with all therapeutic interactions with me, you remain in control of your choice to participate.

WHAT IS THE COST?

EMDR sessions can last from 55-90 minutes.  Cost is based on time spent in session.

WHAT ARE YOUR CREDENTIALS FOR PRACTICING EMDR?
